Rules for 2009-2010 Season

The Jacksonville Grand Prix will consist of 16 races this year. The series will start with the Tour de Pain in August. Overall scoring will be determined by using age-graded performance factors (these factors are determined as a percentage of the current age record for each age based on information supplied by USA Track and Field). Age group points are based on scoring in the top ten of each age group.

What Is The Grand Prix?
The Jacksonville Grand Prix is a series of Jacksonville's best road races. These races are top quality, established events. The courses are measured accurately. Each event offers race results to their finishers, and they are conducted by groups or individuals that have experience and expertise in the field of road racing. As a participant in a Grand Prix event you can rest assured that you are running a worthwhile race.

How Does The Grand Prix Work?
Every runner can compete in the Jacksonville Grand Prix. You do not have to register to take part. All you have to do is run the events. 1st Place Sports will score each race to see if you have accumulated points in the series. What the Grand Prix is designed to do is determine who the top Jacksonville area runners are given age difference. The overall scores will be determined by age-graded factors. Example if you run 87.1 percent of the best performance for your age as determined by USA Track and Field, then you will receive 87.1 points as an overall score.

Age group awards will be determined by finishing in the top ten in your age group.

Age-Group Awards.
After we have determined who the top five runners are for the cash awards we will determine an age-group champion in each of the age-groups as outlined in the rules section. Grand Prix awards will be given to the top three of each age group, but to qualify a runner must accumulate at least 500 points.

THE RULES
Rule 1: All runners will compete for points in their age-groups. Points are earned by placing in the top ten of the following male and female divisions:

10 and under, 11-13, 14-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74 & 75 and over.

Rule 2: The points scored for placing in the top ten of an age-group are:

1st 100, 2nd 85, 3rd 70, 4th 55, 5th 45, 6th 35, 7th 25, 8th 20, 9th 15, 10th 10

Rule 3: All races on the series will count.

Rule 4: Points as calculated by 1st Place Sports shall be official.

Rule 5: Points for the 10 and under and 11-13 age-groups will based on the accompanying shorter races with the Outback Distance Classic 1/2 Marathon, Winter Beach Run and the Pumpkin Run and not on the longer events. Points will not be scored in the Jacksonville Marathon for this age group. We do not encourage 13 and under participation in races over 10 miles.

Rule 6: The Jacksonville Marathon will count double in the scoring. The 1/2 Marathon with the Marathon will score as single points.

Rule 7: All runners will count in scoring no matter where they reside, unless the runner is receiving financial assistance from the race as an invited runner.

Rule 8: There will be two separate competitions: Overall/Age Group

Overall points:

Overall points will be scored by age-graded factors. The points you score is the actual percentage of age factor performance. Example if a runner runs 74 percent of the age grade factor. The runner scores 74 points for his or her overall point calculation. Overall points will only be scored down to 60 percent. If a runner scores less that 60 percent, he or she will not receive overall points for that event.

Age Group Points:

Points scored in the age groups will be to the top ten finishers in each age group. There will be no bonus points and there does not have to be ten runners in an age group. Example: The same runner above scores the 74 points in the overall competition and finishes third in his age group with only six runners finishing in that age group. The runner would score 70 points in their age group.

Rule 9: Runners score points for their age group based on finishing in the top ten in their age group no matter how many finishers are in their age group.

Rule 10: All races on the Grand Prix will display the Jacksonville Grand Prix logo indicating that they are an official event of the Jacksonville Grand Prix.

Rule 11: In the case of ties at the end of the season. The runner with the best finish overall will be the winner.

Rule 12: The www.1stplacesports.com is the official webiste of the Jacksonville Grand Prix.

Rule 13: The schedule of events and the dates of these events as outlined on this site are tentative. You should check the official entry form or our website to make sure of date, time and grand prix status.

**NEW** Rule 14: A runner’s age-group for age-group championship tabulations will be the age of that runner on the date of the last Grand Prix race. Example: If a runner starts out the season as 44 years old and turns 45 after a couple of races, that runner will carry over their points earned from the races they ran at age 44, but will finish in the 45-49 age group.

Rule 15: The only exception to Rule 7 will be in the scoring of Run For The Pies. Runners will be scored in the Grand Prix only if they have scored points in a least one other Grand Prix event.

Rule 16: To qualify for an age-group award a runner must accumulate 500 points during the season.

Rule 17: You must run and score points in a race by December 31st to be included in the points calculations.
