The Gate River Run will be using disposable ChampionChips to time runners in the 15K this year. We will have mats at the starting line, and at the finish, which will enable us to give every runner a net time. The net time is the time it takes to run from the actual starting line to the finish. The cost of renting a chip is including in the entry fee. If you own your own chip, you can take a $2.00 discount from the stated entry fee, but you must enter your chip number on your registration form.

1st Place Sports uses the ChampionChip to time most of our races. This radio frequency based technology enables runners to receive an exact select time as you cross the finish line. This technology will speed up the results process and enable less lag time between the race and the awards ceremony.

Just lace the chip into your shoe lace and the Chip will do the rest. We are using disposable chips this year. You can dispose of your chip in recycling bins that will be set up after the finish line or keep it as a souvenir. These chips can only be worn in this race. They will not work for any other race. If you wear the chip again in another race, you will not be timed.

If you buy a personal ChampionChip, it will last for years. The chip does not use a battery. It is actually charged by the mats that you run across. If you fail to wear your chip during a ChampionChip timed race, you will not receive a time of place. There are no chutes, no waiting in lines and no tags to be removed from the bottom of your race number.

Most of the races will offer a discount on your entry, if you have your own chip. 1st Place Sports races will give you a $2.00 discount to chip owners.
