Meet Our Management Team!
Office manager
RIP 7/7/11 - We will miss you always!
Gordon R. Slater
Gordon was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. When he was 18, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After four years, he decided to attend the University of Michigan, graduating with a degree in Business. Soon after, he began working for Ford, working his way up the corporate ladder. He was the Regional Sales Manager of Ford, when he decided to retire after 40 years of service.
Gordon started working for us in 2003 as our "Chipman." He manages the race office, making sure that all our ChampionChips are ready to go for the next race, and ensuring the prerace process and timing goes as smooth as possible.
He began to run 33 years ago to improve his endurance when he played tennis and raquetball. The very first race he participated in was the 2nd running of the Gate River Run in 1979, and he has run 29 Gate River Runs since. He runs all different distances including the 1 Mile, 5K, 6K, 5 Mile, 10 Mile, 10K, 1/2 Marathon, and 13 Marathons!! His favorite Marathon to run is the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC, but his favorite race of all time was the Maggie Valley Moonlight Race 8K.
Over the years, Gordon has learned many things about running, but his personal advice to runners is "No excuses!" He also thinks being consistent in your training is very important.
When he was younger, Gordon loved flying and skydiving, jumping more than 10 times out of a plane at 3,500 feet, and logging thousands of hours piloting planes. Nowadays, when he isn't getting chips ready for races, or vacationing at his home in Maggie Valley, North Carolina, he enjoys riding his Harley around Jacksonville and throughout Florida.
